THE DREAMER - A GRAPHITE DRAWING 2014

This is a dream I had in the early 70's before I went to graduate school is psychology.  I'd finished my college degree, married, had two children and started attending art school.  The night after I had this dream my art instructor and his wife invited me to a meeting with their spiritual leader who'd just returned from India.  When I walked into the room and saw she was the same woman who was in the dream I'd had the night before I was stunned.  I walked up to her and took her hand, as I had in the dream, and told her the dream.  She told me the woman in the dream was the figure of Isis, and it was not time for me to take the crescent I initially thought she was offering to me.  I never understood the dream, knew if was a "big" dream and always remembered it.

Shortly after that I left my marriage, got my Masters and Doctorate in Psychology as I wanted to become a Jungian analyst because this was a field where psyche and image converged. But life took me into more extroverted directions into academic psychology, teaching, organizational and clinical psychology; where I stayed until the mid 1990's.

In 2014 I returned to this dream with this drawing in an effort to understand the message I'd been given.  I also decided to develop my own set of hieroglyphs to describe my life up to that point. This was a challenging process, to reduce my life narrative to approximately 50 symbols.  What emerged were epochs or themes: my childhood, my adult family life, my extroverted or professional life, and the traditions and beliefs that guided my inner life.  And, by the time I'd finished the drawing, I understood that now was the time in my life to take the crescent that I'd been asked to wait for.  The dream of the dreamer was finally understood.
